Short Hair, Don’t Care

Ok guys, I’ll admit it, I’m sucking at this blog thing. It’s been over a month since I’ve written anything on here. I’ve taken outfit photos but I just never find the time to actually do a blog. But I definitely want to do this one about my recent hair cut I got a few weekends ago.

Firstly, for those of you who don’t know where I get my hair done, I go to Koupi Studios in Burlington, Ont. I get my hair done but the owner, Rob, and always get some help with colour and hair washing from Stephanie, Sara, or Kris. Rob has been doing my hair since I was 15 years old. That’s 20 years!!! I refuse to let anyone else cut my hair. His kindness, wit, style, talent, and vision are what keeps me going back to him. Every time I walk out of his salon, my hair looks amazing. I’ve introduced a lot of my friends and family to his salon and they always are happy with their result.

Just to remind you, this is what my hair looked like…

Soooo long. The last time my hair was that long, I was 18. I’m now 35. Since I started dying my hair, my hair has been usually short, with the exception of the few times I let it get past my shoulders. This time I grew it out for my wedding, then continued to grow it because I wanted gorgeous long mermaid hair lol. Then I went a whole year without trimming it because I couldn’t afford to get my hair cut every time my appointments came up. This caused my hair to become a damn bird’s nest. Near the end of my hair’s life I could barely get my fingers through it, let alone a brush. Sure the picture above makes my hair look like it was just fine, but that’s after styling it. This is what it looked like after blow drying it…

It was crispy and crunchy and ick. It was time for a cut and some colour since I was bored with brown. I knew I wanted to get a long bob (LOB) and I originally wanted to do it all purple. The lob happened but we couldn’t do the purple because the bleaching would be too much for my hair, even after cutting it. So we went with something I did a few times back when I was in my early 20’s. We did dark brown on top and red underneath. Red doesn’t need heavy bleaching and the brown on top saved my already destroyed bangs. This is what we ended up with:

As you can see, it’s the bomb. It feels so amazing and healthy now and it’s so much fun. Someone said to me that the “punk rock Sheila is back” and that’s how I feel. Short hair with a funky colour is definitely me. I loved my long hair and I will definitely try to grow it out again in the future but I’m really happy with my short hair right now.

And just to compare again…

I also picked up some new shampoo and conditioner from the salon. It’s the 911 Quinoa formulation from Biotop. Holy crow this stuff is incredible! It makes my hair soooo soft and because there are no sulfates, it keeps my hair colour on lockdown. I don’t know how I can ever use anything else after this. 20160725_083012

So that’s my hair adventure for you all! And to end off the blog, I’ll just post 8 outfits I’ve worn over the last month! Enjoy!

    • Thanks Jackie! Most of my clothes do come from Modcloth. But I also buy clothing from Emily and Fin and Bernie Dexter. I LOVE Pin Up Girl Clothing, Trashy Diva, and Unique Vintage but I their stuff tends to either be too pricey or the shipping to Canada is ridiculous. I also shop at smaller Canadian online stores Retroglam and Blame Betty, as well as Canadian relailers Le Chateau, Bluenotes, and Suzy Shier for more basic pieces.

I definitely also love to buy my clothes from Facebook buy/sell/trade pages like Modcloth BST and the like.
